…as i may have mentioned, the fine organizers of the 3 day OFFSET09 creative conference in Dublin Ireland flew me over to give a talk about myself and my work. it was a really incredible experience and i was so happy to be a part of this collective event. instead of a very genre-or-skillset oriented conference, this was simply a whole bunch of people who did a whole bunch of things and all did them in sincerely asskicking manners, all on their own terms. it was awesome to hear people talk so passionately about their work and how they work and their process and experience and everything. i wish art school had been like this, honestly. i felt i took so much from the whole event, and i hadnt even gone as a audience member. but i ended up sitting in the auditorium all weekend long trying to catch as many talks as i could, about things id never have thought id be interested in. typography? meee? noooo!

i mostly just talked about my background, my parents pottery business and how i could never wrap my head around a 9-5 job, and the idea of a DIY in-house business was the only thing that actually made sense to me. so i showed my work and process while talking about the importance of doing as many aspects of your work yourself as you can without relying too much on others. as well, about the huge importance of really putting yourself into your personal work, by talking about my work pre-and-post graces death and how that effected how i approached things, via conceptually and the desire to really sink myself into it the labourous aspect of it for the sake of facing it head on. i was certainly nervous really sort of spilling myself out in front of such a big crowd that i couldnt even really see, but im happy i did. thanks to everyone who came up to me or emailed me after my talk, i really appreciate that people connected to what i was doing.
some photos! ill save the stage/talk photos for when the videos are online and i can post about that. in the meantime, enjoy some photos of people you may or may not know!
