A small time-capsule of my life after meeting coffee but before cigarettes; what it's like to go to college, or to know Matthew.
In fog, in rain, through thunderstorms, late at night, eyes sleep-glued, hands aching, problems comopunding, internal lists of verbs potentializing, whether 70º or 50º or 30º, we buy coffee, reflexively, as though ordering our sandbags through a catalogue, with purpose, as though we weren't just pledging another alliance. We laugh and pretend we're lighting candles for ships already at sea, and clerks learn our names, and we stir creamer, and count change.
