so...
been a little while...
hows everyone doing? alright? cool.
so things, as things tend to do, got a little hectic round here... been on the overtly busy side of things, finishing up old projects, barging into new projects, and getting as much as i can done for the upcoming shows. you may have been wondering "where did daniel go?". well due to the wonderfulness of Wild Blue Satellite Internet, i have had no internet in many moons. apparently the fine people at Wild Blue firmly believe shutting someones service off for two months is acceptable as long as they claim to not know the reason why, and defer responsibility to a department that was apparently closed 24 hours a day. as an example of their amazing customer service, when told that my internet didnt work, and hadnt worked for weeks, they told me to go their website for more information on why it might not be working. bottom line: no thank you. nothing beats spending 2 months trying to answer emails on my cellphone leaning out of my window trying to get half a bar of signal. anyways... im rambling.
lots to eventually report, but ill try not to overthink it for the time being...
-- DANIEL AT ROTOFUGI, CHICAGO (PRE-PITCHFORK FESTIVAL)--

first and foremost. on july 17th, at Rotofugi Gallery in chicago IL, ill be having a solo show opening. the reception is 6-9pm and the show will be up until august 2nd. there will be a majority of new work, a few very special releases, my adorable face, and good times for all. its the thursday night before the pitchfork festival opens, so if youre coming into town for that, come the night before. tell whoevers couch youre sleeping on that youll be there early.
-is there a preview list? i believe rotofugi has a signup on their site. what that entails? i dont know, but you can sign up.
-will any originals be available online? rotofugi has always been great about pieces getting online quickly, but i imagine those there in person will take presidence.
-will the 'special releases' be available online? yes. rotofugi will have a select number of each, but likely a special version of one. but both will be available afterwards. one possibly before, one moreso after.
-what are the 'special releases'? there will be some things marginally inexpensive and plentiful, and something marginally expensive, elaborate, classy, and fairly limited. both come in boxes.
-will you have the _____ print there? the focus of this show is new work, so ill be very very selective and sparse of any old work going up.
-will you be there? yes, i look forward to meeting you. or remeeting you.
-- WHAT ABOUT THOSE OTHER PRINTS? --
maybe youre also thinking 'what happened with the wewerewaiting/pleasedontworry4thedition/pogues/nadasurf/builttospill/converge/FOB/etc posters? well the simple answer is 'still packed away in boxes'. i havent made them available online because i havent had the time to tackle another large batch of mailorder with everything going on and my regular help being on tour for the last month and a half. plus, cant run an online store if you dont have any internets. i will have all of said posters at flatstock if you come on out. and theyll be available as soon as i find some time or some help. plenty of each, dont let some poorly written ebay description tell you otherwise in the meantime.
-- FUTURE PLANS? --
well, my focus until mid july is simply finishing up all the work for the chicago show and flatstock, finishing all the final details on the 'special releases' (of which there is many things still to get together), and start the gradual process of packing things up for an inevitable move. unfortunatly we will actually be closing up the tiny media empire studio space, for a variety of reasons. an unexpected change of situations regarding the printing press, justin taking on a much-desired-and-deserved job teaching non toxic printmaking at a university in another state, our continuing problems with the building owners, and me wanting to be much closer to a certain someone. needless to say, this will be an ordeal, its taking alot of time, and were finding homes for alot of equipment, so maybe we have something you need. (anyone want like 40 old wooden screen frames? or to buy a homemade washout booth? a drying rack or two?).
in the coming year ill be coming to seattle for flatstock in late august, the richard goodall gallery in the UK for a solo gallery show in late october, sxsw in march, gallery1988 in san fran in april, and a few other places yet to be determined. in the times between those times, i expect to be somewhere working on something. but honestly, i have no idea where that will be at the moment.

January sometime, 2008.
heyhey folks...
this is a bit of a picture heavy post, but ive been up to an awful lot in the recent weeks thats worth looking at.
firstly...

wootini! i had a solo show opening at wootini gallery in carrboro NC. itll be up until early february, so if youre in the area check it out.

i look so uncomfortable in front of a camera.

some of the fantastic turnout, featuring the now famous and crowd favorite 'girl on the cellphone'.
the show completely sold out, which is great. now i have alot less stuff around my house.
secondly...

the Stan Lee tribute show at Gallery1988 in LA, which i flew out for.

meeting the man the myth the legend. this was one of the biggest hugest nerdiest happiest moments of my life. its on video somewhere, i am outright giddy. i had him sign my copy of amazing spiderman #97, and signed him a copy of my doctor strange print with a thank you note on the bottom.

myself and greg simkins...

brandon bird and myself making stern faces

this is me next door at golden apple comics doing some sketches. this was a good lesson in getting proper sleep
(i was running on none) before attending any event where you might be asked to draw something, so you dont end up totally wrecking some poor dudes drawing of dr strange in a sleepy daze. oops.
anyhoo, if youre in the LA area within the next month, get to that show. its excellent beginning to end. in the spirit of the moment, i ended up purchasing a piece myself. it was next to a piece purchased by joss whedon, so things got a little extra nerdy.
